Job summary

Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine is seeking a diligent worker to assist with maintenance and repairs on mining equipment, including welding, gas cutting, grinding and drilling. Qualifications

• Grade 10 / Standard 8 is required.
• Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence is required.
• Operative Course Certificate is advantageous.
• 3 months practical trade-related experience in a heavy industrial/mining/plant environment is advantageous.
• 6 months practical experience in Gas cutting equipment and welding is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Assist in ensuring optimum availability and reliability of equipment in support of mining operations; perform maintenance on mining equipment including modifications and repairs.
• Keep own work area clean; ensure tools are cleaned after use and stored; ensure toolbox tools are in safe working condition.
• Conduct risk assessments in own area prior to tasks and perform lock-out procedures when required.
• Work under supervision, ensure tasks are completed as per requirements; perform welding, cutting, grinding and material drilling.
• Adhere to maintenance/production schedules to support production goals; use equipment safely and effectively.
• Record tool status and hand over to Foreman; operate stationary and mobile engineering equipment; keep tools and equipment clean and functional.
• Assist in first-level inspection and monitor mobile engineering equipment to prevent breakdowns and delays.

Our mine, situated in the Limpopo Province about 60 kilometers from Lydenburg and 40 kilometers from Burgersfort, and is a world-class producer of Chrome Ore.

The successful applicant will report to the Boilermaker or nominee.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Grade 10 / Standard 8.
• Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence.
• Advantageous:Operative Course Certificate.

EXPERIENCE (including but not limited to):

• Advantageous: 3 months practical trade-related experience in a heavy industrial/ mining/ plant environment.
• Advantageous: 6 months practical experience in Gas cutting equipment and welding.

DUTIES (including but not limited to):

• To assist in ensuring optimum availability and reliability of equipment in support of effective and continuously improved mine operations. To assist and execute maintenance on mining equipment including modifications and repairs.
• Ensure own work area is always clean. Ensure all equipment and tools are cleaned after use and stored in Storeroom. Ensure that artisan/personal toolbox tools are in safe working condition.
• Conduct risk assessment in own area of work and within span of control prior to every task performed. Perform lock-out procedure when required.
• Work independently and under the supervision of the Boilermaker/Direct Supervisor. Ensure tasks are completed according to set requirements and standards. Tasks include Welding, cutting, grinding and material drilling.
• Adhere to planned maintenance /production schedules and breakdowns to assist in achieving production throughout. Assume responsibility for the safe and optimal use of equipment and related machinery.
• All defects and status of tools and equipment are recorded, signed, and handed over to Foreman. Operate stationary and mobile engineering equipment, e.g., TMM machines, conveyor belts, pump stations, compressors, and fire suppression systems. Tools, e.g., welding machine, gas cutting equipment, angle grinder and material drilling machine are kept clean, maintained, and functional. Tools, material and equipment is utilized according to SOP's and manufacturer specifications.
• Assisting the Boilermaker/Direct Supervisor in the maintenance of primary and secondary equipment when instructed. Breakdowns are attended to immediately to restore availability and reported, to the Supervisor. Specified components and spares are reconditioned for installation. Repaired equipment is tested for functionality before handing over. Components are cut and welded according to specifications to reduce workload and time.
• Assist Boilermaker/Direct Supervisor with first level inspection and observing mobile engineering equipment to prevent breakdowns, damaged equipment, injuries, and production delays.
