Job summary

Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine (Pty) Ltd in Limpopo seeks a maintenance-assisted role to support the Boilermaker in ensuring high equipment availability. The incumbent will perform welding, cutting, grinding and drilling tasks, follow safety procedures, and help maintain tools and areas to defined standards.

The position requires Grade 10, a valid Code 08 driver’s licence and advantageous experience with gas cutting and welding.

Qualifications

• Grade 10 / Standard 8 is required.
• Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence is required.
• Operative Course Certificate is advantageous.
• Advantageous: 3 months practical trade-related experience in heavy industrial/mining environments.
• Advantageous: 6 months practical experience in gas cutting and welding.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintaining equipment availability and reliability for mine operations.
• Carry out maintenance on mining equipment including modifications and repairs.
• Keep work area clean; store tools safely and maintain safety practices.
• Conduct risk assessments before tasks and implement lock-out procedures when required.
• Work under supervision of Boilermaker/Direct Supervisor and perform welding, cutting, grinding, and drilling.
• Follow planned maintenance and production schedules to support continuous operations.
• Record tool status and hand over to Foreman; operate stationary and mobile engineering equipment.

The successful applicant will report to the Boilermaker or nominee.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Grade 10 / Standard 8.
• Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence.
• Advantageous:Operative Course Certificate.

EXPERIENCE (including but not limited to):

• Advantageous: 3 months practical trade-related experience in a heavy industrial/ mining/ plant environment.
• Advantageous: 6 months practical experience in Gas cutting equipment and welding.

DUTIES (including but not limited to):

• To assist in ensuring optimum availability and reliability of equipment in support of effective and continuously improved mine operations. To assist and execute maintenance on mining equipment including modifications and repairs.
• Ensure own work area is always clean. Ensure all equipment and tools are cleaned after use and stored in Storeroom. Ensure that artisan/personal toolbox tools are in safe working condition.
• Conduct risk assessment in own area of work and within span of control prior to every task performed. Perform lock-out procedure when required.
• Work independently and under the supervision of the Boilermaker/Direct Supervisor. Ensure tasks are completed according to set requirements and standards. Tasks include Welding, cutting, grinding and material drilling.
• Adhere to planned maintenance /production schedules and breakdowns to assist in achieving production throughout. Assume responsibility for the safe and optimal use of equipment and related machinery.
• All defects and status of tools and equipment are recorded, signed, and handed over to Foreman. Operate stationary and mobile engineering equipment, e.g., TMM machines, conveyor belts, pump stations, compressors, and fire suppression systems. Tools, e.g., welding machine, gas cutting equipment, angle grinder and material drilling machine are kept clean, maintained, and functional. Tools, material and equipment is utilized according to SOP's and manufacturer specifications.
• Assisting the Boilermaker/Direct Supervisor in the maintenance of primary and secondary equipment when instructed. Breakdowns are attended to immediately to restore availability and reported, to the Supervisor. Specified components and spares are reconditioned for installation. Repaired equipment is tested for functionality before handing over. Components are cut and welded according to specifications to reduce workload and time.
• Assist Boilermaker/Direct Supervisor with first level inspection and observing mobile engineering equipment to prevent breakdowns, damaged equipment, injuries, and production delays.
