Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Bioprocess Development Engineer in the Tembisa area to optimize and scale mammalian cell culture or microbial fermentation for biotherapeutics. You will translate lab-scale discoveries into pilot and commercial manufacturing, collaborating with research, manufacturing, and QA teams to drive robust, reproducible processes.

Qualifications

• MS/PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in biopharmaceutical process development with a strong understanding of upstream processing.
• Hands-on experience with bioreactors, cell culture/fermentation, downstream processing, and analytical techniques.
• Knowledge of GMP guidelines and regulatory requirements for biopharmaceutical manufacturing.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and excellent data analysis skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and scale-up mammalian cell culture or microbial fermentation processes.
• Design and execute experiments to characterize critical process parameters and define operating ranges.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues encountered during process development and scale-up activities.
• Prepare technical reports, documentation for regulatory submissions, and present findings to cross-functional teams.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure smooth technology transfer and successful implementation at production scale.
