Job summary

Santam's Core Insurance Platform team is seeking a BillingCenter Developer based at the Head Office in Bellville to own development, enhancement, maintenance and support of the Guidewire BillingCenter platform. You will contribute to architecture, production stability and system integrations across the Guidewire InsuranceSuite landscape.

The role requires strong Gosu, Java, SQL, XML and REST API skills, plus hands-on experience with cloud-hosted environments and agile delivery.

Qualifications

• Requires tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years’ software development experience.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience with Guidewire InsuranceSuite platforms.
• Experience developing and supporting Guidewire BillingCenter solutions.
• Strong experience with Gosu, Java, SQL, XML, REST APIs and web services.
• Experience with cloud-hosted applications and agile delivery.
• Experience in financial services or short-term insurance is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, configure and maintain Guidewire BillingCenter functionality and extensions.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The incumbent will be responsible for the development, enhancement, maintenance and operational support of Santam’s Guidewire BillingCenter platform. The role supports business initiatives, production stability, system integrations and ongoing optimisation of BillingCenter capabilities across the Guidewire InsuranceSuite landscape.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Design, develop, configure and maintain Guidewire BillingCenter functionality and extensions.
• Develop solutions in accordance with Guidewire best practices, architecture standards and Santam development standards.
• Analyse technical requirements and translate functional specifications into scalable technical solutions.
• Develop and maintain integrations between BillingCenter, PolicyCenter, ClaimCenter, JDE and other enterprise applications.
• Configure billing plans, payment plans, delinquency processes, invoicing, payment allocation and financial event processing.
• Perform root-cause analysis and resolution of production defects and incidents.
• Participate in application upgrades, cloud releases and platform optimisation initiatives.
• Collaborate with architects, business analysts, quality analysts and support teams throughout the delivery lifecycle.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, configurations and deployment procedures.
• Ensure adherence to performance, security and operational support requirements.

• Provide technical expertise and mentorship to junior developers and support resources.
• Participate in estimation, sprint planning, backlog refinement and technical design reviews.
• Stay abreast of Guidewire BillingCenter product enhancements, cloud releases and development practices.

Integration Functions

• Design and develop interfaces using Guidewire integration frameworks and web services.
• Collaborate with enterprise integration teams to support reliable and secure system connectivity.
• Analyse and resolve interface issues affecting financial processing and reconciliation activities.

Quality Assurance

• Conduct code reviews, unit testing and peer reviews.
• Support integration testing, system testing and user acceptance testing activities.
• Ensure solutions meet quality, performance and supportability standards before deployment.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years’ software development experience.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience working with Guidewire InsuranceSuite platforms.
• Experience developing and supporting Guidewire BillingCenter solutions.
• Strong experience with Gosu, Java, SQL, XML, REST APIs and web services.
• Experience working with cloud-hosted applications and agile delivery methodologies.
• Experience within the financial services or short-term insurance industry will be advantageous.
• Experience using Jira and Confluence.

KNOWLEDGE

• Strong knowledge of Guidewire BillingCenter architecture and configuration.
• Knowledge of billing, invoicing, receivables, payment processing and reconciliation processes.
• Knowledge of integration patterns, middleware and enterprise application architecture.
• Understanding of DevSecOps, CI/CD and modern software engineering practices.
