Job summary

Placements24 in Stellenbosch is seeking an Automation and Control Engineer to design, implement, and optimize automated systems for manufacturing. You will work with production, engineering, and IT to develop sophisticated control strategies that improve efficiency and product quality.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics and at least four years in industrial automation, with strong PLC/HMI/SCADA skills and knowledge of Profinet/Ethernet/IP.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
Minimum of 4 years of experience in industrial automation and control system design.
Proficiency in major PLC platforms (Siemens, Allen-Bradley) and HMI/SCADA software.
Strong understanding of process control, instrumentation, and VSDs.
Experience with Profinet / Ethernet/IP is essential.
Excellent problem-solving and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and program PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems for automated processes.
Integrate sensors, actuators, drives, and robotics into cohesive automation solutions.
Develop control logic and algorithms to optimize performance, safety, and reliability.
Troubleshoot systems, perform diagnostics, and conduct root cause analysis.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define automation requirements and project scopes.
Prepare technical documentation including P&IDs, narratives, schematics, and manuals.
