impact.com is seeking a Platform Infrastructure Engineer in Cape Town to contribute to the scale of our cloud-native platform. You will implement infrastructure abstractions, deploy platform services, and help operate Kafka-based messaging alongside senior engineers.

The role emphasizes Java basics, cloud concepts, Linux fluency, and a passion for systems at scale. A Bachelor's in CS/Engineering or equivalent is required; GCP/AWS/Azure and Terraform experience are valued.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
Solid software engineering fundamentals with Java or similar.
Familiar with basic network and cloud concepts.
Comfort with Linux command line; willingness to learn systems administration basics.
Interest in how systems run at scale and production services.
Hands-on experience with GCP (preferred) and AWS or Azure.
Familiarity with Kubernetes, containerization, or orchestration (preferred).
Experience with IaC tools like Terraform (preferred).

Responsibilities

Implement platform infra abstractions via IaC.
Deploy and operate platform-layer infra: VPCs, compute pools, storage, Kubernetes clusters.
Operate managed pub/sub systems (e.g. Kafka).
Consume IaC modules and provide operational feedback.
Write production-quality Java code implementing infra abstractions.
Collaborate with senior engineers on cloud architecture and best practices.
