Job summary

Opencast Consulting is seeking an Assistant Accountant in Gauteng with limited experience to join our finance team. This entry-level role supports daily accounting tasks and offers a pathway to develop skills in accounting.

Responsibilities include preparing financial statements, processing invoices, reconciling accounts, assisting with tax returns and month-end close, and maintaining records. Degree in Accounting/Finance (or in progress) and strong Excel/communication skills are preferred.

Qualifications

• Degree or qualification in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or in progress).
• Up to 1 year of accounting or related experience.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
• Basic knowledge of accounting software; experience with accounting tools is a plus.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills; able to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements.
• Process invoices, payments and receipts; reconcile accounts payable/receivable.
• Assist with bank reconciliations and month-end/year-end close tasks.
• Record daily transactions in the accounting system and maintain records.
• Support tax returns preparation and other compliance documentation.
• Perform ad-hoc accounting duties as required.

Position Overview:

The Assistant Accountant will support the finance department in handling daily accounting tasks. The ideal candidate will possess a strong attention to detail, basic knowledge of accounting principles, and the ability to work independently. Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and other financial reports.
• Help with the processing of invoices, payments, and receipts.
• Maintain and reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable records.
• Assist with bank reconciliations and account reconciliation tasks.
• Process and record daily transactions in the accounting system.
• Support the preparation of tax returns and other compliance-related documentation.
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Maintain accurate records and files for accounting transactions.
• Assist with general accounting tasks and ad-hoc duties as required.

Qualifications:

• A maximum of 1 year of experience in accounting or a related field.
• A degree or qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or in progress).
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
• Basic knowledge of accounting software (experience with accounting tools is a plus).
