Job summary

Network Recruitment is seeking an organised and analytical Asset Controller to oversee the accurate management of the organisation's fixed asset portfolio. The role is based in Kingsmead, Durban Central, and focuses on maintaining robust financial controls across multiple entities.

Responsibilities include asset register maintenance, depreciation schedules, asset tagging, and PPE budgeting assistance, with a strong emphasis on accuracy and audit readiness.

Qualifications

• Matric is required.
• A tertiary qualification in Finance, Accounting, Commerce or related field, or currently studying towards one.
• 12 years' experience in a similar fixed asset, finance or accounting environment.
• Experience with an asset management system, preferably Assetzure, is advantageous.
• Good computer literacy, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Solid understanding of basic accounting, finance and mathematical principles.

• Capture newly acquired assets with correct cost, category, location and depreciation rate.
• Verify new assets against purchase orders and delivery docs; maintain supporting records.

• Ensure asset locations are updated after transfers or relocations.
• Reconcile the Fixed Asset Register to the General Ledger across group entities.

Job description

We are looking for an organised and analytical Asset Controller to take responsibility for the accurate management and control of the organisations fixed asset portfolio. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with numbers, maintaining accurate records and ensuring strong financial controls across multiple entities. This role is based in Kingsmead, Durban Central.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain and update the Fixed Asset Register and asset tracking system , ensuring all asset information is accurate and complete.
• Capture newly acquired assets using the correct cost, asset category, location and depreciation rate .
• Verify new assets against purchase orders and delivery documentation and maintain supporting records.
• Monitor asset condition and identify assets requiring impairment, write-off or repair consideration .
• Ensure asset locations are updated following transfers or relocations.
• Reconcile the Fixed Asset Register to the General Ledger across all group entities.
• Prepare monthly depreciation schedules and reconcile asset movements to management accounts.
• Review PPE and capital expenditure postings to ensure items are correctly capitalised and allocated.
• Conduct regular site inspections, including bi-annual asset counts and leasehold improvement inspections .
• Investigate and follow up on missing, damaged, relocated or untagged assets.
• Manage asset tagging , including tagging new assets and replacing damaged or illegible tags.
• Review documentation relating to asset disposals , obtain the required approvals and maintain a complete audit trail.
• Prepare monthly asset addition reports and contribute to PPE commentary and cash flow reporting.
• Assist with PPE forecasting and budgeting .
• Ensure PPE controls and processes are properly implemented and consistently followed.
• Provide general financial and administrative support as required by management.

Job Experience and Skills Required:
