Job Description - Summary

The teaching load for this position is 18 credit hours per semester. Instructors must be prepared to teach across educational mediums (seated, online, hybrid/blended modalities, information highway, etc.) as needed. Other duties include academic advising, college service, and professional development activities. Instructors are expected to abide by all applicable college policies. They are also expected to stay current with all college-required training (FERPA, Title IX, etc.).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching

• Conduct all class hours in a professional manner as assigned by the course schedule and academic calendar.
• Teach 18 contact hours in the fall and spring semesters.
• Create correct, professional syllabi that meet the Faculty Syllabus Checklist requirements.
• Create, administer, and accurately assess substantive assignments and activities that require critical thinking.
• Meet classes on time and for the full duration of the published class time.
• Post office hours each semester and attend all posted hours.
• Attend all mandatory divisional and college-wide meetings and graduation ceremonies.
• Notify the division chair promptly in the event of illness.
• Maintain alternative educational activities for students in the event of faculty illness.
• Support and follow college policies and procedures.
• Assume reasonable responsibility for security, maintenance, and inventory of assigned equipment and supplies.
• Prepare and submit accurate attendance rosters, student grades, book orders, leave reports, and other assigned documents when due.
• Assist in the selection of textbooks and maintain updated text information.
• Substitute for other faculty members as assigned by the Division Chair or Associate Dean.
• Participate actively in institutional effectiveness planning by identifying expected student outcomes, assessment means, and improvement strategies based on assessment results.
• Properly submit assignments and student artifacts when selected for college-wide General Education Assessment.
• Prepare supplemental teaching activities (e.g., develop supplemental Moodle course sites, refer weak students for tutoring, consult with students, facilitate help or review sessions outside class time).
• Work with the Fine Arts Lead Instructor on course scheduling, program review, and program activities.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area.

Academic Advising

• Provide accurate academic advising to students whenever needed.
• Participate in advisor in-service training.

College Service

• Participate in activities that promote the welfare of the college (e.g., serve on committees, prepare accreditation reports, mentor new and adjunct faculty, advise SGA‑approved student organizations about Fine Arts events, recruit for and market instructional programs, participate in faculty governance, revise curricula, or otherwise use faculty expertise in service of the college).

Professional Development

• Participate in mandatory on-campus professional development activities.
• Participate in professional development activities in the faculty member’s formally recognized area of expertise (e.g., attend or present at professional conferences, participate in summer institutes or short courses, audit or take graduate‑level courses, maintain membership in professional organizations).

General Qualifications

• Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and write as applicable to the subject area.
• Ability to respond to common inquiries and/or complaints from students, internal staff, or members of the college community.
• Ability to effectively present information to students, internal staff, and members of the college community.
• Ability to apply mathematical operations required to tabulate student scores.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of information.
• Understanding of and commitment to the unique nature and role of the College and philosophy of the community college system.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in Art, or Master’s degree and 18 graduate hours in Art; with ability to teach lecture classes like Art Appreciation.

Preferred Qualifications

• MFA or MA with the ability to teach studio Art classes.
• Credential to teach Art History.
• Completed Quality Matters Teaching Online Certificate or equivalent certification.

Certificates, Licences, Registrations

Completed Quality Matters Teaching Online Certificate or equivalent certification is required. If the candidate chosen does not have such certification, it must be completed after the first semester of teaching.

Physical Demands

The physical demands required to successfully perform the essential functions of this job include:

• Regular speaking or hearing.
• Frequent sitting.
• Occasional standing, walking, using hands for tasks, and reaching with hands and arms. May need to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds.
• Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
