Job summary

Boardroom Appointments is seeking an Application Support Engineer to monitor and support mission-critical applications across Windows, UNIX and Oracle platforms. You will provide operational and business support to ensure service levels are met, investigate faults, and communicate findings clearly to customers.

The role requires a proactive, self-motivated candidate with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work after hours.

Qualifications

• 3 Year tertiary qualification or a relevant IT qualification.
• Minimum 2 years application support engineer experience.
• Basic knowledge of incident handling, change management, problem management, etc.
• Problem solving using application log files and SQL queries.
• Commitment to routine and investigation/analysis tasks.
• Ability to solve medium complexity problems.
• Understand and develop the support team technical competency.
• Self-motivated, proactive, taking ownership until resolved.
• Mature with after hours standby responsibility.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Quick learner with a short ramp up period.

Responsibilities

• On line monitoring, administration and support of applications on Windows, UNIX and Oracle platforms.
• Provide operational and business support to meet customer SLAs.
• Monitor, log, investigate and resolve failures on transaction processing apps.
• Liaise with customer representatives during problem resolution.
• Ensure reports of investigations and resolutions are clear for customers.
• Perform scheduled daily, weekly and monthly support tasks.
• Investigate support techniques to improve operations and SLAs.
• Proactively analyze failures and trends to improve service levels.
• Conduct routine maintenance, upgrades and deployments of applications.
• Provide training to BSI support team members.
• Provide application performance data and support audits.
• Perform after hours standby on production applications.
• Comply with shift requirements of the support team.
