Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a technical field.
• 5+ years' relevant experience in software/automation engineering or digital process automation.
• Hands-on delivery of intelligent automation/RPA within an enterprise environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop intelligent automation solutions aligned with business requirements and security controls.
• Build, configure, test and deploy RPA bots, workflows, APIs, scripts and reusable components.
• Translate business requirements into scalable automation solutions and estimate efforts.
• Develop solutions using UiPath, Power Automate, Python, SQL and REST APIs.
• Integrate applications and systems via APIs and other integration mechanisms.
• Incorporate AI/GenAI capabilities into automation where appropriate.
• Provide Level 2/3 production support and deployment into production.

PBT Group is seeking an experienced AI Automation Engineer to join our team on a 12-month consulting engagement based in Midrand. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, deploying and supporting intelligent automation solutions that improve operational efficiency, service quality, compliance and customer experience.

This is an exciting opportunity for an automation-focused technology professional to work within a large enterprise environment, contributing to the delivery of AI-enabled automation, RPA, workflow solutions, API integrations and digital process automation.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop intelligent automation solutions aligned with business requirements, architecture standards and security controls.
• Build, configure, test and deploy automation solutions including RPA bots, workflows, APIs, scripts and reusable components.
• Translate business requirements into practical and scalable automation solutions.
• Perform technical solution design, feasibility assessments and effort estimation.
• Identify opportunities to automate and optimise business processes.
• Develop solutions using technologies such as UiPath, Microsoft Power Automate, Python, SQL, REST APIs, JSON and XML.
• Integrate applications, systems and services through APIs and other integration mechanisms.
• Incorporate AI/GenAI capabilities into automation solutions where appropriate.
• Support document processing, OCR/Intelligent Document Processing and AI-assisted workflows.
• Perform unit, integration and UAT support testing.
• Deploy solutions into production and provide Level 2 / Level 3 production support.
• Troubleshoot automation failures, perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Monitor and optimise automation solutions to improve stability, performance and reliability.
• Maintain technical documentation, solution designs, operational runbooks and support documentation.
• Participate in code reviews and promote reusable, maintainable and secure development practices.
• Work within Agile delivery environments, including Scrum and/or Kanban.
• Collaborate closely with Business Analysts, Architects, Developers, Process Owners and other technical teams.
• Contribute to automation standards, governance and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support CI/CD, DevOps, version control and release management practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Information Technology or a related field.
• 5+ years' relevant experience in Software Engineering, Automation Engineering, Systems Analysis or Digital Process Automation.
• Minimum 2 years' hands-on experience delivering Intelligent Automation / RPA solutions within an enterprise environment.
• Strong understanding of automation architecture, integration and enterprise application environments.
• Experience taking automation solutions through the full SDLC – design, development, testing, deployment and production support.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and identify root causes.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to translate business requirements into practical technical solutions.
