Job description
Accountant - Bookkeeping & VAT (UAE)

Location: Cape Town, South Africa (Remote)

Type: Full-time, Contract

About Kaspr

Kaspr is a boutique accounting and tax firm based in the UAE, founded by ex-Deloitte professionals. We support small to mid-sized businesses with high-quality bookkeeping, VAT compliance, and Corporate Tax support.

Our focus is practical and execution-driven: clean books, correct filings, and structured compliance. We work with business owners who value accuracy, responsiveness, and professional delivery.

The Role

This role is for an accountant who will own client accounts end to end.

You will manage bookkeeping and VAT engagements for UAE-based clients, from document collection through to monthly close and VAT filing. You will also join selected client calls together with the founder.

This is not a data entry role and not a pure junior training position. Once onboarded, you are expected to work independently and take ownership of your client portfolio.

No prior UAE experience is required. However, you must be willing and able to learn UAE VAT rules, UAE Corporate Tax rules, and related compliance concepts. Training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

Bookkeeping and financial reporting:

  • Manage monthly bookkeeping for UAE clients
  • Process bank, card, and payment processor transactions
  • Perform full bank and control account reconciliations
  • Classify revenue and expenses accurately
  • Maintain balance sheet integrity
  • Prepare monthly P&L and balance sheet reports
  • Identify and resolve inconsistencies or missing information proactively

VAT compliance (UAE):

  • Prepare and support quarterly UAE VAT returns (training provided)
  • Review VAT treatment of income and expenses
  • Maintain VAT working papers and reconciliations
  • Flag VAT risks or anomalies before filing
  • Track VAT deadlines and client readiness

Corporate Tax support (UAE):

  • Support Corporate Tax compliance work under guidance
  • Prepare and maintain Corporate Tax working papers
  • Learn and apply UAE Corporate Tax rules over time
  • Escalate technical matters to the founder when required

Client and project management:

  • Request documents from clients and follow up where needed
  • Maintain organized client folders and working papers
  • Track status and deadlines across multiple clients
  • Join client calls with the founder when required
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients via email

Process and quality:

  • Follow internal SOPs and checklists precisely
  • Deliver review-ready work, not draft-level outputs
  • Document recurring issues and edge cases
  • Continuously improve efficiency and accuracy
Working Hours and Availability (Important)
  • Full-time role (45-50 hours per week)
  • You must work UAE business hours
  • This role is not suitable for candidates working multiple jobs or freelance gigs
Required Experience and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 2–4 years experience in bookkeeping or accounting
  • Hands-on experience closing monthly books
  • Strong experience with Xero or QuickBooks (non-negotiable)
  • Solid Excel skills (reconciliations, summaries, reviews)
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Prior experience communicating directly with clients
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • Progress toward, or completion of, a professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, ACA, CPA, SAICA, or equivalent
Training and Growth
  • Structured onboarding and training on UAE VAT and Corporate Tax
  • Gradual increase in client ownership and responsibility
  • Opportunity to grow into a senior delivery role as Kaspr scales

This is a long-term role for someone looking to build depth and stay.

How We Measure Success
  • Accuracy and cleanliness of bookkeeping
  • On-time delivery
  • Quality of VAT and Corporate Tax working papers
  • Clarity and professionalism of client communication
  • Reduced need for founder involvement over time
