Job summary

Acumen Group is seeking an experienced Accountant to join their dynamic finance team in the Green Point area, Cape Town. The role is hands-on and commercially minded, offering ownership of the accounting function in a fast-paced environment.

Ideal candidates have 2–4 years’ post-articles experience, completed SAIPA or CIMA articles, and exposure to logistics, manufacturing or FMCG. Strong management accounting, reporting and automation interest are highly valued.

Qualifications

• Completed SAIPA or CIMA articles is essential.
• 2–4 years’ post-articles experience.
• Candidates may come from practice or commerce, provided they have relevant accounting experience.
• Experience within logistics, manufacturing or FMCG is highly advantageous.
• Strong management accounting and financial reporting experience.
• Solid understanding of budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, and financial controls.
• Experience with AI, automation or finance process improvement would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day accounting and ensure accurate financial records.
• Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reporting packs.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations and maintain supporting schedules.
• Manage and review general ledger transactions.
• Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management.
• Monitor actual expenditure against budgets and investigate variances.
• Assist with project and cost accounting.
• Prepare financial reports and analysis for management.
• Assist with VAT, tax and other statutory requirements.
• Coordinate with external auditors and assist with year-end audits.
• Maintain and improve internal financial controls, policies and procedures.
• Identify opportunities to streamline and automate finance processes.
• Support the implementation of AI and automation tools within the finance function.
• Provide ad hoc financial analysis to support commercial decision-making.
• Work closely with internal and external stakeholders.
• Continuously identify opportunities to improve reporting accuracy and efficiency.
