Job summary

EnableSA seeks a Senior Financial Accountant to join our Somerset West team. You will lead the review of management accounts, sign off AFS under IFRS for SMEs, and mentor junior staff while partnering with clients to drive sound financial decisions.

The role requires 5+ years post-qualification experience, strong IFRS for SMEs knowledge, SA tax familiarity, and cloud accounting proficiency. Cross-border exposure and SAICA/SAIPA training mentoring are advantageous.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' post-qualification experience in an accounting practice or outsourced finance environment serving multiple clients.
• Experience reviewing AFS and management accounts prepared by others.
• Strong working knowledge of IFRS for SMEs and SA tax legislation.
• Proficiency in cloud accounting platforms (Xero, Draftworx, QuickBooks, Sage).
• Exposure to fractional CFO/FM environments or cross-border/international clients is advantageous.
• Experience mentoring trainees through SAICA or SAIPA training programmes is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Independently review monthly management accounts — income statements, balance sheets and supporting schedules — prepared by trainees and junior team members, in addition to managing your own portfolio.
• Draft and review Annual Financial Statements (AFS) in accordance with IFRS for SMEs, signing off on work prepared by others.
• Assist clients with budgeting, forecasting, and cost modelling where needed.
• Identify and implement process improvements within the Management Accounting team.
• Review provisional tax calculations, VAT, and payroll reconciliations prepared by the team, and act as an escalation point for technical queries.
• Support audit and independent review processes, including resolving more complex queries.
• Lead monthly management meetings with clients, providing proactive insight, highlighting risks and trends, and offering forward-looking financial guidance.
• Support trainees and junior accountants with technical queries and review their work where needed.
• Partner with senior leadership on ad hoc projects.
• Build strong working relationships with team members across the wider client team to ensure a joined-up service.

Requirements

• Grade 12.
  
• Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with SAICA or SAIPA articles completed (CIMA also considered).
  
• 5+ years' post-qualification experience, ideally within an accounting practice or outsourced finance environment serving multiple clients, rather than solely in a single-entity, in-house experience.
  
• Demonstrated experience reviewing AFS and management accounts prepared by others, not just drafting your own.
  
• Strong working knowledge of IFRS for SMEs and South African tax legislation (income tax, VAT, provisional tax).
  
• Proficiency in cloud accounting platforms (e.g. Xero, Draftworx, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar).
  
• Exposure to fractional CFO/FM environments, or cross-border/international clients is advantageous.
  
• Experience mentoring trainees through SAICA or SAIPA training programmes is advantageous.
