Job summary

Utah’s Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator to support a robust volunteer program. The role involves recruiting, training, supervising, and recognizing volunteers, and collaborating with Education and Animal Care teams.

You'll help manage interview processes, orientation, retention, and communications while promoting the zoo's mission. Weekend/evening coverage may be required, and confidentiality is essential.

Qualifications

  • Two years paid experience in a formal volunteer program.
  • Strong interest in volunteer management in the zoo/aquarium industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and collaboration with volunteers and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with recruitment, placement, and retention of volunteers.
  • Assist with volunteer interviews, orientation, and training.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to volunteers.
  • Assist with volunteer communications and updates.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date volunteer database.
  • Assume program management duties as necessary when the volunteer manager is not present.
  • Assist in training volunteers, including interpretation and animal handling training.
  • Assist in evaluating volunteer interpreters to aid them in improving interpretive skills.
  • Commitment to the Zoo’s Mission.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality.
