Job summary

The City of Bay City is seeking a Zoning Enforcement Officer for the Planning & Zoning division. This is a full-time union position involving administering the city's Code of Ordinances related to planning and zoning, reviewing building and sign permits for compliance, and enforcing zoning regulations.

Under the supervision of the Planning & Zoning Manager, the officer conducts field inspections, issues citations, maintains records, and serves as staff liaison to the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Michigan statutes and the principles and practices of municipal planning and zoning.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team with good judgment.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Proficient in reviewing plans, blueprints, and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance to developers, builders, and city officials regarding zoning regulations.
• Review building permits, site plans, and various applications for zoning compliance.
• Inspect site improvements for zoning compliance in the field.
• Investigate zoning violations and issue notices or citations as required.
• Maintain records and prepare studies and reports for decisions.
• Assist with plan review and enforcement activities for Planning & Zoning Manager.
• Serve as liaison to the Zoning Board of Appeals and attend meetings.
