Job summary

City of Bay City, Michigan seeks a Zoning Enforcement Officer in the Community Development department. This full-time union position enforces the City's Code of Ordinances related to planning and zoning, reviewing building and sign permits for compliance and conducting field inspections.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of Michigan statutes and the principles and practices of municipal planning and zoning.
• High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or equivalent combination of education/experience in planning or zoning

Responsibilities

• Provide information and guidance to the public regarding zoning regulations.
• Review building, sign permits, fence permits, site plans for zoning compliance.
• Inspect site improvements for zoning compliance; conduct field investigations.
• Issue notices, citations, and appear in court when necessary.
• Maintain records and prepare studies for decision making.
• Serve as Zoning Administrator and staff liaison to ZBA.
• Attend public meetings and make presentations.
• Perform other related work as required.
