Job summary

City of Midland is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer to ensure compliance with municipal codes, zoning, and property standards. The role involves on-site inspections, documenting findings, and coordinating with residents and departments to address concerns.

The position requires knowledge of local ordinances, the ability to interpret regulations, and the capacity to work weekends/on-call as needed. TD LR certification is required within 18 months of hire, with travel for training anticipated.

Responsibilities

• Conduct visual inspections of properties to identify code violations based on complaints or routine assessments.
• Enter data into the system to generate notices of violation or document inspection outcomes.
• Respond to citizen inquiries and provide information on zoning and city regulations.
• Research planned districts, nonconforming uses, plats, and possible illegal uses of property.
• Investigate environmental compliance issues in response to public complaints.
• Educate the public and contractors on zoning, code enforcement procedures, and city requirements.
• Inspect junked/abandoned vehicles and derelict structures for code compliance.
• Collaborate with internal departments on special projects and perform related duties.
