Job summary

Georgetown University seeks a driven Sustainability Project Specialist to optimize Zero Waste initiatives across the Hilltop and Capitol Campuses. You will collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and external partners to advance the sustainability strategic plan and drive behavior change in campus communities.

This role involves data collection and reporting, cross-functional coordination with Facilities, Planning, and Management, and delivering training on sustainability matters while

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of progressive project implementation in environmental science; higher education preferred.
  • Experience supporting and collaborating with senior leadership.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including grammar, spelling and composition.
  • Exceptionally strong organizational skills.
  • Interpersonal skills in a high-profile environment with courtesy, professionalism, diplomacy, and efficiency.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting sustainability data.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple independent tasks.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to create presentations using PowerPoint, Google Slides, Canva, Prezi, or similar tools.
  • Preferred: TRUE Zero Waste Advisor and/or LEED Green Associate or other credential.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize Georgetown University’s Zero Waste initiatives at the Hilltop and Capitol Campuses.
  • Support efforts to achieve Georgetown’s sustainability strategic plan through special projects.
  • Interact with faculty, staff, unionized employees, students, senior leadership, neighbors, external partners, vendors, and government agencies.
  • Implement strategic initiatives and drive behavior change in campus communities.
  • Support initiatives and projects advancing university zero-waste performance targets and sustainability goals.
  • Aid in convening and facilitating cross-functional teams.
  • Coordinate work between the Office of Sustainability and Planning, Facilities, and Management.
  • Align sustainability programming and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Provide guidance and educational training on sustainability-related matters.
  • Collect and analyze data from internal partners for reporting.
  • Support the Manager, Administration and Analysis with reporting and data analysis.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of experience contributing to progressively complex project implementation in an environmental science focused organization; higher education preferred
  • Demonstrated experience supporting and collaborating with senior leadership
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including grammar, spelling and composition
  • Exceptionally strong organizational skills
  • Proven interpersonal skills in a high-profile environment with courtesy, professionalism, diplomacy, and efficiency
  • Demonstrated experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting data from sustainability functional areas
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple independent tasks
  • Proficiency in standard office productivity software, including Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to compose clear and compelling presentations and correspondence using PowerPoint, Google Slides, Canva, Prezi, or other presentation programs
  • Ability to work with a variety of personalities and constituencies
  • Proactive self-starter able to take direction and feedback
  • Preferred: TRUE Zero Waste Advisor and/or LEED Green Associate or other relevant sustainability credential
