Job summary

The Medical College of Wisconsin is seeking a candidate to train in screening compounds in a zebrafish model to prevent retinal photoreceptor degeneration linked to Usher Syndrome type 1B. The role includes molecular genetic work to identify Myo7A isoforms that may rescue degeneration, under supervision, plus lab maintenance and data communication.

Responsibilities include generating gene expression plasmids, maintaining zebrafish lines, and conducting a chemical screen with confocal retinal

Qualifications

• Knowledge of molecular biology, genetics, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.
• Hands-on experience with molecular/cellular biology and microscopy preferred.
• Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.
• Prior experience with experimental animal models is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Generate gene expression plasmids and establish transgenic zebrafish lines.
• Carry out zebrafish husbandry and transgenic/mutant line maintenance.
• Conduct a chemical compound screen using a zebrafish model of USH1B.
• Collect, document, and evaluate confocal retinal images.
• Record and compile accurate experimental records and summaries.
