Job summary

The Medical College of Wisconsin, Inc. invites applications for a research associate to join a project modeling Usher syndrome type 1B in zebrafish. The role focuses on generating transgenic lines, conducting drug screens, and analyzing retinal phenotypes.

You will work under supervision while gaining hands-on experience in molecular biology, genetics, and advanced microscopy, with opportunities for training and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of molecular biology, genetics, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.
• Hands-on experience with molecular/cellular biology and microscopy preferred.
• Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.
• Prior experience with experimental animal models is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Generate gene expression plasmids and establish transgenic zebrafish lines.
• Carry out zebrafish husbandry and maintain transgenic/mutant lines.
• Conduct a chemical compound screen for potential therapeutics using a zebrafish USH1B model.
• Collect, document, and evaluate confocal retinal images from the screen.
• Record and summarize experimental results; communicate findings clearly.
• Assist with evaluation, interpretation, and assessment of data.
• Attend meetings with PI and staff; assess data validity.
• Oversee daily project operation in the PI's absence.
• Train new lab personnel including graduate students and post‑docs.
