Job summary

The Medical College of Wisconsin Eye Institute's Miesfeld laboratory seeks a research assistant to support retinal development and disease studies. You will assist in breeding mice and zebrafish, perform cloning and PCR steps, and help process tissues for imaging and sequencing, enabling insights into retinal biology and vision loss prevention.

As part of a collaborative team, you will maintain records, participate in meetings, and complete required safety training, contributing to high-quality

Qualifications

  • Minimum required education: Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum required experience: 1 year of mouse experience including handling, colony management, tissue collection, and genotyping.
  • Preferred experience: mouse and zebrafish handling/colony management, tissue collection for genotyping, zebrafish microinjection.
  • Standard molecular biology techniques such as cloning and PCR; preparation of stock solutions and dilutions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in breeding and PCR genotyping of mutant/transgenic mice and zebrafish.
  • Conduct molecular biology work, including plasmid tool assembly via cloning.
  • Collect and process tissue for bio- and histochemical analysis and subsequent data collection.
  • Perform routine lab duties: washing/sterilizing glassware, disposing waste, ordering supplies, and coordinating shipping.
