Job description

About the Job

I'm looking for a YouTube Thumbnail & Packaging Specialist to work with me long term on my channel, KevTheNPC.

My main series is One Hour Before Work. I work a normal 9–5 and give myself one hour before work to make as much progress as possible in a game. I've previously covered ARK and Dark Souls 3, and my next series is Subnautica.

I'm not looking for someone who can simply make good-looking thumbnails. CTR is currently one of the biggest bottlenecks on my channel, so I'm specifically looking for someone who understands why people click.

Going forward I want to develop the title and thumbnail BEFORE I record each episode.

I'll provide an episode/story brief covering the goal, challenge, stakes and potential story. I want you to help turn that into the strongest possible package before I start recording.

I want someone who is comfortable telling me when an idea isn't strong enough and suggesting something better.

Ideal Candidate

Highlight the must-have skills and experience for success.

You understand:

  • YouTube CTR and viewer psychology
  • Gaming and entertainment thumbnails
  • Title + thumbnail synergy
  • Curiosity without relying on clickbait
  • Storytelling through a single image
  • Creating clear thumbnails that work at small sizes
  • A/B testing and genuinely different concepts
  • Building thumbnail concepts before footage exists

I'm looking for a thinking partner, not just someone who waits for me to tell them what to design.

Proven YouTube experience is important to me.

Job Requirements

Please include:

  1. Your 5 best thumbnails, ideally gaming/entertainment.
  2. Channels you've worked with.
  3. Any CTR results, A/B tests, before/after results or other evidence showing how your work performed. Please be clear about what you personally contributed.
  4. Your normal turnaround time.
  5. Your normal rate per thumbnail/project.
  6. Exactly what's included in that rate — concept development, revisions, title ideas, A/B variants etc.
  7. A short explanation of why you charge your rate, based on your experience and results.
  8. A short explanation of how you approach creating a thumbnail that gets clicks rather than simply looks good.

Please give me your normal rate rather than asking what my budget is. I'm happy to pay more for someone with proven experience and results, but I want to understand what I'm paying for and why.

Paid Test

I'll shortlist a small number of applicants and give each person the same Subnautica episode brief.

The episode will not have been recorded yet.

The paid test will involve creating a thumbnail/package from the story idea itself. I'll be judging the thinking behind the thumbnail as much as the finished design.

If we work well together, I'm looking for someone to become the long-term packaging partner for the channel. I'm currently aiming for around 2 videos per week.
