Job summary

The YMCA of Portsmouth seeks a Swim Team Coach to support leadership and instruction, attend local meets, promote the team, and ensure a safe environment. You will help develop, organize, and implement high-quality programs emphasizing skill development and sportsmanship.

Responsibilities include delivering age-appropriate workouts, leading practices, and maintaining communication with families while adhering to YMCA guidelines and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Current ASHI BLS, Basic First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certification (or equivalent). Any BLS certification valid for one year.
• Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor or Level 1 Swim Coach.
• Must obtain YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving within 30 days of hire.
• Must obtain American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches within 30 days of hire.
• Demonstrate swimming skills at a minimum Stage 4 proficiency and have strong stroke mechanics; communicate effectively with swimmers/parents.

Responsibilities

• Deliver thorough, age-appropriate workouts focusing on technique and endurance within YMCA guidelines.
• Learn to develop age-appropriate practices with the Aquatic Director or Head Swim Team Coach.
• Lead structured practices during assigned times.
• Record workouts and track attendance per guidelines and certifications.
• Maintain open communication with parents and promote a collaborative environment within YMCA policies.
