Job summary

The YMCA of South Hampton Roads is hiring a Swim Team Coach to lead, coach, and motivate participants. You will conduct age-appropriate workouts, promote teamwork, and maintain a safe group environment aligned with YMCA policies.

You will collaborate with the Aquatic Director and Head Coach to develop practices, track attendance, and communicate with parents while ensuring high standards of sportsmanship and integrity in a caring, nurturing setting.

Qualifications

• Current ASHI BLS, Basic First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certification (or equivalent).
• Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor or Level 1 Swim Coach.
• Must obtain YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming within 30 days of hire.
• Must obtain American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches within 30 days of hire.
• Demonstrated swimming at Stage 4 proficiency; strong stroke mechanics; able to communicate with swimmers and parents.
• Experience as competitive swimmer preferred; 1 year coaching or teaching preferred.
• At least 16 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Deliver thorough, age-appropriate workouts focusing on technique, endurance, and stroke development within YMCA guidelines.
• Learn to develop age-appropriate practices with Aquatic Director or Head Swim Team Coach.
• Lead structured practices during assigned times.
• Record workouts and track daily attendance following YMCA best practices.
• Maintain open communication with parents; foster development and relationships within YMCA guidelines.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment for swim team participants.
• Build authentic relationships with swimmers and parents; refer to other programs when appropriate.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Follow YMCA policies, regulations, and safety procedures; complete incident reports as needed.
• Assist in all areas as assigned by supervisor.
