Job summary

The YMCA of South Hampton Roads is seeking a dedicated swim team coach to lead age-appropriate practices, motivate participants and promote safe, high-quality programs in a supportive, nurturing environment.

You will collaborate with the Aquatic Director, maintain attendance records, communicate with parents, and help swimmers develop technique and sportsmanship while upholding YMCA policies.

Qualifications

• Current ASHI BLS, Basic First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certification (or equivalent)
• Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor or Level 1 Swim Coach
• Must obtain YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving within 30 days of hire
• Must obtain American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches within 30 days of hire
• Must demonstrate swimming skills at a minimum of a Stage 4 proficiency and have a strong foundation in stroke mechanics
• Experience as competitive swimmer preferred
• 1 year coaching or teaching experience preferred
• At least 16 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Deliver thorough, age-appropriate workouts focusing on technique, endurance, stroke development, drills and YMCA guidelines
• Lead structured practices during assigned times as outlined by the Aquatic Director or Head Swim Team Coach
• Record all workouts and track daily attendance as outlined by the Aquatic Director or Head Swim Team Coach
• Maintain open communication with parents and promote an environment focusing on swimmer development and YMCA policies
• Assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment for swim team participants
• Build authentic relationships with swimmers and parents and connect them with the YMCA
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled
• Follow all YMCA policies and complete incident reports as necessary
• Assist in all areas as assigned by the supervisor
