Job summary

YMCA of Greater Charlotte is seeking a part-time referee to officiate youth and adult games at our Mooresville facility. You will enforce sport rules, promote sportsmanship and inclusivity, and serve as a positive role model for participants.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of at least one organized sport (e.g., basketball, soccer, flag football, volleyball).
• Ability to remain fair, calm, and composed in high-energy environments.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
• Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Officiate youth and/or adult sports games according to YMCA rules.
• Promote and model YMCA core values in all interactions.
• Arrive prepared and on time for scheduled games and maintain attire/equipment.
• Maintain control of the game by managing participants, coaches, and spectators.
• Ensure safety by monitoring player behavior and game conditions and responding to injuries or conflicts.
• Communicate rules and decisions clearly to players and coaches.
• Assist in setup and breakdown of equipment and field/court layout as needed.
• Document and report game results, rule infractions, injuries, or incidents per YMCA protocols.
• Provide encouragement and guidance to players to support skill development.
• Participate in referee trainings, meetings, and ongoing development.
