Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a program staff member to lead youth sports activities, ensure safety, and provide a high-quality experience for participants and parents on game days, practices, camps, and academies.

You will promote YMCA core values, supervise staff, coordinate teams and schedules, and support marketing and volunteer efforts. Flexible weekend hours are required, with opportunities to develop youth development programs.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training on hire.
• Must possess oral, auditory and written communication skills for interaction with children and adults.
• Must have a keen desire to work with children and relate to them positively, patiently and non-judgmentally.
• Must possess basic knowledge of sports.
• Must have flexible schedule to work weekends.
• Prior childcare experience. Sports-related knowledge in a youth setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Promotes YMCA five core values and character development in all activities.
• Treats participants, parents and staff with dignity and respect.
• Assists and supervises activities and ensures staff adhere to standards.
• Sets up equipment for games and practices.
• Supervises program area to ensure safety at all times.
• Addresses coaches, players and parents calmly and professionally.
• Reports problems or unsafe situations to the Director.
• Monitors play and enforces sport rules.
• Assists with equipment inventory.
• Provides training support to staff as needed.
• Assists in forming teams and scheduling for games and practices.
• Identifies and coordinates volunteer coaches to staff teams.
• Supports marketing by creating promotional flyers for clinics and leagues.
• Implements sports procedures and communicates changes to staff.
• Attends trainings and meetings.
• Assists in annual fundraising and events.
• Other duties as assigned.
