Job summary

Wisconsin Community Services seeks a Shelter Care Supervisor II for the Bahiya House Youth Shelter in Milwaukee. You will lead daily shelter operations, supervise staff, ensure youth safety, and enforce agency and state requirements in a trauma-informed environment.

You’ll mentor staff, coordinate programming, document accurately, and collaborate with the APD and PD to deliver high-quality services. This role demands strong leadership and a commitment to youth well-being.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2–3 years working with children or adolescents in a 24-hour residential or shelter setting.
• Minimum 1 year supervisory experience; 2–3 years preferred.
• High school diploma or GED; associate or bachelor’s in a related field preferred.
• Meet all WCS, funder, and state licensing requirements, including background checks and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Provide reflective supervision, coaching, mentoring, conflict management, and scheduling.
• Ensure active supervision and appropriate staffing ratios to safeguard youth.
• Ensure adherence to agency policies, Milwaukee County requirements, and licensing regulations.
• Oversee daily shelter operations, incident reporting, and emergency drills.
• Coordinate youth activities and community-based programming with leadership.
• Maintain effective communication with youth, families, staff and partners while protecting confidentiality.
• Review youth files, reports, and records for accuracy and compliance.
• Respond to incidents, participate in emergency preparedness, and drive corrective actions.
• Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and staff development.
• Participate in after-hours coverage and weekend scheduling.
• Support budgeting, purchasing, and procurement related to shelter operations.
