Job summary

Fort Bend County in Texas seeks a Part-time Library Assistant to join the Youth Services team at the First Colony library. You will assist the full-time staff at reference desks, answer reference questions, and help patrons use public computers to access the public catalog, locate circulation accounts, and access databases.

Responsibilities include shelf-reading, book/AV processing, and helping with children's programming.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 48 college credit hours preferred; experience with children in groups is a plus.
• Typing and keyboarding skills required; basic computer skills with internet and database searching.

Responsibilities

• Assist the full-time staff at one of the library’s reference desks.
• Provide answers to reference questions and refer difficult questions to the full-time staff.
• Assist patrons in using public computers to access the catalog, circulation accounts, and databases.
• Help with programming for children and assist at the circulation desk.
• Complete shelf-reading duties and process books/AV as assigned.
• Attend reference training and stay familiar with library resources.
