Job summary

Laramie County Library System in Cheyenne, WY seeks staff to support youth services across children and teen areas. You will assist patrons, conduct tours, manage the Early Literacy Center and My Library Place, and contribute to collections and programs.

Responsibilities include welcoming patrons, helping with databases and computers, supervising volunteers, and participating in Summer Reading Challenge events. On-site role with active public service.

Qualifications

• Demonstrates strong customer service skills and courtesy.
• Protects patron confidentiality per Wyoming state law.
• Able to assist patrons with references and basic databases.

Responsibilities

• Maintains patron confidentiality in compliance with Wyoming state law.
• Performs exceptional customer service; as the first contact for patrons in many cases.
• Roams away from public service points to assist patrons as needed.
• Prepares the children's and teen areas; powers up computers and keeps areas tidy and inviting.
• Follows opening and closing procedures.
• Assists patrons with reference interviews, using library resources, databases and computers; provides readers' advisory for children and teens.
• Understands Early Literacy Center (ELC) and My Library Place (MLP) concepts and shares knowledge with adults; monitors and maintains these areas.
• Gives tours to individuals and groups as assigned.
• Assists in collection development and weeding as directed by Youth & Outreach Services leadership; provides input from patron feedback.
• Keeps children's and teen areas neat; assists in volunteer supervision and youth events.
• Supports Summer Reading Challenge initiatives and greeter desk duties; performs other duties as needed.
