Job summary

Thresholds is seeking a Residential Support Specialist Lead in Chicago, IL to coach young adults (16-21) toward independent living. You’ll work one-on-one and in groups, teaching life skills, coping strategies, and healthy routines within a residential setting.

You will model relationship-building, support education and daily activities, document progress, and supervise a shift team to ensure safe, supportive care. Training in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention is provided.

Qualifications

• Passion for mental health advocacy
• Effective communication and relationship-building skills
• Compassion and respect while working in someone’s home
• Patience and willingness to meet youth where they’re at
• Good writing skills and attention to detail
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends
• Ability to perform Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) techniques, including safe restraint (training provided)

Responsibilities

• Coach youth on independent living skills (hygiene, housekeeping, meals)
• Teach relationship-building and coping skills
• Support residents to learn school and daily living activities
• Ensure safety and document progress and medication management
• Mentor Residential Support Specialists on shift
