Job summary

New Hope Treatment Centers seeks a Residential Counselor in Milton, WV to support youths in crisis. The role focuses on safety, therapeutic supervision, documentation, and teamwork within a multi-disciplinary treatment setting.

The candidate should be 21+, have a High School Diploma, and pass a background check and drug screen. Evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required, with opportunities to contribute to treatment goals and resident well-being.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children preferred but not required.
• Must have High School Diploma.
• Must be 21 years of age.
• Must pass a background check and drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Ensures the safety of residents and follows medical and life safety policies.
• Provides therapeutic supervision of residents during treatment activities.
• Reports to the Program Supervisor any behavior that could disrupt the therapeutic milieu or indicate a problem.
• Assists in orienting new residents and provides ongoing education on program rules and expectations.
• Assists in managing aggressive residents using de-escalation and behavior management techniques.
• This position may require restraining physically aggressive residents.
• Coordinates therapeutic activities and oversees resident tasks such as hygiene, chores, journaling and homework.
• Documents resident behavior and interventions in the health record daily, using approved formats.
• Maintains awareness of residents' whereabouts through rounds and counts.
• Participates as an active member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team and attends required meetings.
• Performs other related duties such as meal prep, administering medications, documenting temperatures.
• Assists with transportation of residents in facility vehicles.
• May serve as primary advocate for up to three residents and provide progress summaries.
