Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a qualified corrections counselor to deliver individualized rehabilitative services to offenders. You will assess needs, develop and monitor treatment plans, and conduct orientation, individual, group, and family counseling in accordance with YOPRS policies.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of four weeks of SCDC Basic Training within four weeks of hire.
• State of South Carolina minimum requirements include a high school diploma and relevant program experience.
• SCDC minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree in guidance, counseling, or the social sciences and professional experience in human services or social services programs.

Responsibilities

• Develops, implements, and monitors individualized treatment and case plans based on risk assessments and identified needs.
• Plans and conducts all assigned individualized rehabilitative counseling services including orientation, assessment, individual, group, and family counseling.
• Documents offender orientation, assessments, case management, crisis interventions, and other rehabilitative services per YOPRS policy and standards.
• Works with other state agencies and participates in multidisciplinary team meetings, classification reviews, and reentry planning; submits monthly reports to collaborating agencies.
• Assists in transition and reentry, coordinating community referrals, educational placements, and aftercare services when needed.
