Job summary

The City of San Mateo Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a Recreation Program Specialist to oversee daily operations and deliver high-quality services in a diverse community.

The ideal candidate will have a valid California driver’s license, at least a high school diploma, strong communication skills, and the ability to train and supervise staff. Bilingual pay differential available; work hours 12:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m. August–June.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills are essential.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel is expected.
• A valid State of California driver’s license is preferred.
• High school diploma required; ECE units preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations and ensure high-quality services.
• Provide leadership and guidance to per-diem staff as coach and mentor.
• Train, supervise, and collaborate with staff, youth participants, and families.
• Maintain accurate records and required documentation promptly.
• Work independently while following a coordinator's direction.
