Job summary

Distinction LLC operates the St. Louis Job Corps Center and seeks a part-time Recreation Specialist for evening hours. You will direct trainees in leisure-time activities, mentor employability skills, and model professional conduct in a youth-focused environment.

Responsibilities include organizing programs, managing materials, coaching teams, and ensuring safety and compliance with DOL standards while fostering a positive, respectful center culture.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in a work-related field preferred.
• One year of experience working with youth.
• Experience in a recreation/non-vocational program preferred.
• Valid driver’s license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record; CDL with passenger endorsement a plus.

Responsibilities

• Organizes recreation and non-vocational programs and leisure activities, encouraging trainee participation.
• Orders and issues materials and equipment after supervisor approval.
• Develops and runs weekly contests and tournaments.
• Supports center-sponsored trips and events.
• Coaches intramural/varsity teams for on- and off-center activities.
• Assists trainees in fitness and weight training programs.
• Supports clubs (poetry, drama, talent shows) and arts activities.
• Assists in training students in recreation and non-vocational aide programs.
• Ensures programs comply with DOL requirements.
• Attends required staff trainings.
• Maintains a harassment-free, respectful center climate.
• Models appropriate CSS and employability skills including personal responsibility and computer fluency.
• Maintains accountability of staff, students, and property; follows safety practices.
