City of Suffolk, Virginia seeks a part-time Recreation Leader to assist in implementing recreation programs and leading activities for children. The role covers multiple recreation centers (Creekside, Northern Shores, Oakland) with split shifts before and after school.

The position involves supervising children, assisting with events, handling basic admin tasks, and coordinating volunteers to ensure safe, engaging programs. Requires customer-service experience and a Virginia driver's license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 1–2 years' experience in a customer service role with direct interaction with adults and children.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver's license.
• CPR & First Aid Certifications within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with the general public in person and by phone; registers participants; issues and checks membership cards; receives fees; enforces facility rules.
• Leads crafts, games and other activities for children; participates in programs, classes, activities, and events.
• Sets up and takes down equipment for classes and events; maintains inventory of equipment.
• Performs routine administrative tasks; collects funds; prepares deposits; data entry and record keeping.
• Assists in cleaning and maintaining the facility; supports planning for senior trips and special events.
• Recruits volunteers for recreation, athletic, and support service programs; communicates with supervisors and the public.
• Operates a computer and software for word processing, e-mail, and other tasks; attends meetings.
• May assist with flyers, application processing, and correspondence for upcoming events.
• Performs other related duties as required.
