Job summary

Ocean County YMCA in Toms River, NJ is seeking an Entry level, part-time Youth Program Assistant for before/after care. You will supervise a group of children, implement activities, and support staff to ensure a safe, engaging experience aligned with YMCA values.

The role emphasizes effective communication with supervisors, positive discipline, and activity planning, with required NJCCIS and First Aid/CPR training within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with children preferred.
• Experience preferred in recreational activities, sports, songs/music, or related activities.
• At least 16 years of age.
• Attend Orientation, NJCCIS online training, First Aid/CPR certification, and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
• Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
• Ability to plan, lead, and participate in activities in various settings.
• Ability to move actively with the group of children at site.
• React appropriately to emergency situations.
• Provide health physical and proof of TB testing within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing programming with a designated group of children.
• Communicate with Supervisor on a continuous basis and share needs and incidents.
• Communicate with children clearly using positive discipline.
• Help plan, supervise, and implement YKids curriculum and schedule.
• Plan activities that are culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate.
• Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness.
