Job summary

Metro YMCAs is hiring an Afterschool Lead Counselor for the East Orange YMCA in New Jersey. The role focuses on safeguarding children, delivering engaging activities, providing snack support, and assisting with homework under YMCA guidelines.

Requirements include a High School Diploma, basic youth development understanding, and 1–3 years of group leadership. CPR/First Aid may be required; background checks will be performed. This is a part-time position with benefits listed by the YMCA.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; college credits preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience leading group activities (1–3 years).
• First-Aid, CPR and AED certification may be required.

Responsibilities

• Lead and ensure the safety of all children in the assigned group following supervision standards.
• Implement program activities and run games, activities, snacks, and homework support.
• Follow YMCA safety and emergency procedures and complete drills.
• Use positive group management techniques and build positive relationships with children and families.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary environment and report maintenance needs to the Site Supervisor.
