Job summary

Greater Somerset County YMCA–Somerville is seeking caring, energetic individuals to support preschool-age children in our Before and After Care program. This on-site, part-time role involves supervising children, leading activities, and assisting with routines in a nurturing environment.

Applicants must be 17+, have a HS diploma or be a senior, and complete background checks and certifications. Benefits include membership access and growth opportunities within the YMCA Movement.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 17 years old.
• High school diploma or be a high school senior.
• Experience with preschool-aged children in a structured setting is preferred.
• Must be patient, dependable, and able to respond calmly to challenging situations.
• Strong communication with children, families, and staff required.
• Must complete all required background checks, training, and certifications.

Responsibilities

• Actively supervise preschool-aged children and maintain a safe, welcoming environment.
• Lead age-appropriate activities, including arts and crafts, stories, music, games, and outdoor play.
• Assist children with daily routines, transitions, handwashing, toileting, snack time, and cleanup.
• Encourage positive behavior and social-emotional development.
• Build positive relationships with children and families and communicate concerns to the Site Supervisor.
• Follow YMCA policies, emergency procedures, and licensing requirements.
