Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is seeking a Program Assistant (youth programs) to support positive, nurturing relationships with children and families. You will plan age-appropriate activities, supervise groups, and help children achieve belonging while upholding safety standards.

Responsibilities include coordinating classes, communicating with parents, maintaining records, and participating in staff trainings. You will model the Y's core values in daily interactions and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Experience with school-age children in groups is preferred.
• Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate activities.
• Ability to work with diverse populations.
• Completion of basic safety and child protection trainings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Nurture children through purposeful programming fostering achievement and belonging.
• Maintain close supervision of a group and ensure safety at all times.
• Use positive behavior strategies, redirect when needed and apply natural consequences.
• Plan and implement classes, culminating in a showcase at session end.
• Engage parents, volunteers, and community partners in activities.
• Document required records and participate in meetings and trainings.
