Job description

The Role

We're looking for a warm, energetic, and dependable Youth Programs Attendant (Floater) who enjoys working with children from infancy through school age. This position supports both our Drop-In Child Care and Indoor Playground programs, providing a safe, engaging, and welcoming environment for children and families throughout the club.

This is a part-time position scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM, with the potential for additional hours based on availability.

In MAC's Youth Programs Department, fun is mandatory. That isn't to say employees are forced to have it, but rather, good luck trying not to! In what other professional setting are dinosaurs, arts and crafts, and bubbles considered essential equipment? If you enjoy building relationships, helping children learn and grow, and creating meaningful experiences for families, this may be the perfect opportunity for you.

As part of the largest indoor athletic club in the world, Youth Programs offers a variety of engaging experiences for children and staff alike. From active play spaces and child care programs to camps, classes, and youth sports, every day brings something new. With opportunities for professional development, advancement from within, and access to MAC's exceptional facilities, you'll find a rewarding environment where you can grow your career while making a positive impact.

What You'll Do
  • Foster a positive, welcoming, and customer-focused environment for members, guests, and fellow employees.
  • Work cooperatively with team members throughout the Club.
  • Maintain reliable and consistent attendance.
  • Attend required trainings, meetings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Follow all Club policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Promote and model the MAC Code of Conduct.
Child Care Program Responsibilities
  • Provide a warm, safe, caring, and developmentally appropriate environment for children.
  • Greet parents and children upon arrival and departure and communicate effectively regarding their care.
  • Assist children with the transition into care in a way that minimizes anxiety and promotes comfort.
  • Set up, sanitize, maintain, and store classroom equipment and supplies.
  • Prepare crafts, activities, and play experiences daily.
  • Supervise children and guide behavior using positive behavior management techniques.
  • Lead age-appropriate activities including games, arts and crafts, storytelling, imaginative play, and group activities.
  • Follow classroom schedules and routines including snack service, bottle feeding, and activity transitions.
  • Support children's toileting, diapering, hygiene, and other personal care needs according to department procedures.
  • Comfort upset children and maintain a positive, nurturing atmosphere.
  • Monitor the safety and well-being of all children at all times.
Indoor Playground Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain a safe, engaging, and welcoming active play environment.
  • Monitor play areas and enforce safety rules and department policies.
  • Set up, sanitize, inspect, and store playground equipment, play structures, and inflatable equipment.
  • Interact positively with children, parents, guests, and staff.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report damaged or depleted supplies.
  • Address safety concerns, rule violations, and incidents appropriately, including completion of incident reports when necessary.
  • Exercise sound judgment to ensure the safety and security of all participants.
  • Promote positive experiences and exceptional customer service throughout the program.
What You'll Bring
  • Ability to build positive relationships with children, families, members, and coworkers.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and positive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, including children.
  • Ability to perform all essential job functions.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check through Multnomah Athletic Club.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Completion of Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect training, or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
Working Conditions
  • Frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, bending, and sitting.
  • Ability to lift and carry children weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Regular use of a computer, telephone, and office equipment.
  • Ability to set up, move, clean, and store furnishings and program equipment.
