Job summary

Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland, Oregon is seeking a Counter Attendant to deliver friendly, efficient service while preparing and serving food and beverages to members and guests.

You will handle stock, sanitation, and basic food preparation (coffee/espresso, sandwiches, hot items), operate the POS, and collaborate with team members to ensure smooth daily operations. A high school diploma and valid Food Handler’s and OLCC cards are required, with fluent English mandatory.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid Food Handler’s certificate and OLCC card mandatory.
• Prior experience in a coffee/sandwich shop or similar environment preferred.
• Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
• Strong menu knowledge to answer member/guest questions.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work well with coworkers and members.

Responsibilities

• Deliver enthusiastic, prompt, and positive service to members, guests, and staff.
• Regularly replenish stock items as needed.
• Perform cleaning and sanitation duties as directed by supervisor.
• Prepare espresso drinks and smoothies to high standards.

• Operate the point-of-sale system to process transactions efficiently.
• Follow all sanitation and food handling procedures.
• Complete opening, closing, and side work duties as assigned.

What You'll Do:

• Customer Service: Deliver enthusiastic, prompt, and positive service to all members, guests, and employees.
• Stock Replenishment: Regularly replenish stock items as needed.
• Cleaning Duties: Perform cleaning and sanitizing tasks as directed by your team lead, supervisor, or manager.
• Beverage Preparation: Prepare espresso drinks and smoothies to our high standards.
• Food Preparation: Make deli sandwiches and hot items such as hot dogs, pizza, and pretzels.
• Transaction Handling: Operate the point-of-sale system to process transactions efficiently.
• Sanitation: Practice proper sanitation and food handling procedures at all times.
• Daily Operations: Complete opening, closing, and side work duties as assigned.
• Safety Compliance: Follow all club safety policies and procedures, demonstrating safe work practices.
• Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by management.

What You'll Bring:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Certifications: Valid Food Handler’s and OLCC (18 and older only) card mandatory.
• Experience: Prior experience in a similar environment (coffee shop, sandwich shop) preferred.
• Language Skills: Ability to speak, read, and write English fluently.
• Menu Knowledge: Strong understanding of the menu to answer questions from members or guests.
• Customer Service: Excellent customer service and decision-making skills.
• Interpersonal Skills: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, members, and employees.
