Job summary

Grand Street Settlement is seeking an Assistant Director for Wyckoff Gardens to lead program staff and oversee after-school, summer programs and community initiatives in Brooklyn. The role emphasizes program development, partnerships, and ensuring service delivery meets DYCD and DOH requirements.

Qualified candidates will have an Associate degree or equivalent with 5+ years in youth services, supervisory experience, budget management, and strong community engagement skills.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or equivalent of 5+ years in youth services, supervisory experience preferred.
• Familiarity with BK communities, stakeholders and resources.
• Experience in designing, planning and implementing structured programs.
• 1+ years in supervising staff.
• 1+ years of budget, contract and grant management experience.
• Ability to work independently, assess priorities, and take initiative.
• High level of proficiency in administrative work.
• Capacity to thrive under pressure while managing multiple tasks.
• Knowledge of the public education system and positive youth development practices.
• Strong public speaking, writing and organizational skills.
• Team player with commitment to urban youth and LGBTQIA+-friendly environments.
• Experience partnering with DOE and community-based organizations.
• Experience in experiential learning and group facilitation with youth.
• Must be an outstanding strategic thinker.
• Flexible, cooperative and team-oriented.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet research.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct leadership and strategic direction to two program staff.
• Support orientation and evaluation of program staff for center-based after school programs and summer day camp.
• Supervise program staff and ensure goals and performance targets are met.
• Recruitment and retention strategies using the DYCD online report.
• Serve as liaison for schools, parents, and community entities.
• Mentor and coach staff; conduct monthly staff development.
• Facilitate bi-monthly team meetings and ensure execution of staff meetings.
• Set standards for quality youth development programming.
• Engage community residents and partners to support community needs.
• Advocate for program needs via coalition building and feedback surveys.
• Seek at least 3 new partners annually to support programs.
• Create quarterly community events, workshops, and series.
• Assess programs quarterly to ensure alignment with community needs.
• Manage facility logs and coordinate with NYCHA & DYCD.

Education

Associates degree or equivalent of 5+ years in youth services, supervisory experience preferred
