Youth Program Aide

JOB SUMMARY

The Youth Program Aide plays a vital support role in the daily operations of our youth programs, assisting in the supervision, engagement, and care of children ages 5-12 years old. The Youth Program Aide helps create a safe, structured, and enriching environment where youth receive academic assistance, literacy development, social skills training, and physical fitness in an environment where youth can safely explore, discover, create, and grow. The Youth Program Aide provides general supervision, homework support and enrichment activities to students. The Youth Program Aide is responsible for independently supervising groups of up to twenty (20) students, delivering high-quality instruction, upholding the mission and values of the Town, and working with other members of the Youth Program team to track students’ academic progress and support students’ social and emotional development.

This position may be responsible for delivering a specialized intervention program for youth as needed. This grant-funded program operates during the academic year on Monday - Friday. Work hours are typically from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

  • Assist the Youth Program Teacher and Youth Program Administrator in implementing daily literacy skills, lesson plans, enrichment and academic activities for all youth enrolled in the Town’s Youth Program.
  • Provide a structured, enjoyable learning experience for all youth.
  • Provide direct support to students in need of academic intervention/homework assistance.
  • Provide student instruction/support in a small group setting.
  • Assist with conducting assessments of student learning and document program accomplishments.
  • Participate in meetings and training as needed to support the program and student success.
  • Comply with all safety and other regularity and/or funder requirements.
  • Performs general maintenance and clean up duties at the park such as emptying trash and ash tray bins, sweeping, mopping and vacuuming floors, wiping down tables and chairs and other furnishings, replenishing toilet paper and hand towels, cleaning concession area, restrooms, and ball fields.
  • Must complete all organizational mandated training, within the designated time frame.
  • Performs other duties as directed.
Education and Experience
Minimum Qualifications
  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Experience working with children in a group setting is preferred.
  • Must have completed the required 40-hour Department of Children and Families training or be able to complete within ninety (90) days from date of hire.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to work with school-age children.
  • Must demonstrate patience and the ability to work in an inclusionary learning environment.

Requirements
  • Must be a non-smoker.
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is preferred.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must complete a background investigation which includes obtaining a level ll clearance (this includes fingerprinting and a national criminal history search).
  • This position is funded in part through a grant from The Children’s Trust. As such, there is a series of online and live training courses required by the funding agency. The Youth Program Aide will be required to complete all training within six (6) months from the date of hire.

  • Must possess excellent customer service skills and be able to establish good customer relations. This includes the ability to deal with people effectively, courteously, and enthusiastically.
  • Requires limited knowledge of the materials, methods, and equipment typically used in recreational work and cleaning duties.
  • Ability to understand and follow simple, oral, and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of basic rules of safety, and ability to enforce applicable rules and regulations.
  • Must be able to work independently, and complete daily tasks according to work schedule.
  • Ability to get along with others and work effectively with the public and fellow workers.
  • Requires the ability to maintain high ethical and moral standards.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Stand, walk or bend over, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, and pull. Move, lift and/or carry up to thirty (30) pounds to shoulder height. Repetitive use of hands (i.e. fine manipulation, simple grasping, and power grasping). Demonstrate normal depth perception. Sitting, walking, or standing for extended periods of time. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone.
