Job summary

Volunteers of America, Dakotas is seeking an Assistant Youth Development Professional for elementary out-of-school time programs. The role supports supervised activities, homework help, reading, games, and safe, engaging environments for youth ages 16 and 17.

Work is part-time, Monday–Friday afternoons and evenings. You’ll help with attendance, snacks, and shaping positive behavior, under supervision, respecting privacy and diversity within the program.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old; if under 18, must work under direct and constant supervision of a Youth Development Professional or Site Coordinator.

Responsibilities

• Join the fun: Be actively engaged with students by playing games and participating in activities
• Be a helper: Provide help with homework and educational activities
• Be a good example: Show kids how to be kind, respectful and helpful
• Watch over kids: Prioritize student safety and report safety concerns to Site Coordinator
• Keep things tidy: Clean and organize spaces to make sure they are safe and fun
• Serve snacks: Assist with preparing and serving snacks
• Keep track of who’s here: Help track attendance and participation as requested
• Embrace diversity: Appreciate and learn from people with different backgrounds Recognize and value diversity within the work environment
• Respect privacy: Maintain high level of confidentiality with sensitive information
• Stay informed: Complete all trainings required by licensing and organization within identified timeframe

POSITION SUMMARY

As an Assistant Youth Development Professional in our elementary out-of-school time programs, you’ll be a:

• Safety Star: Keep students safe through active supervision
• Playtime Pal: Playtime is serious business! You’ll play games, read fun books, and have a blast with the kids.
• Homework Helper: Imagine being a superhero for homework! You’ll help students with their schoolwork, like solving math problems, reading cool stories and helping with art or science experiments
• Tidy Wizard: Like magic, you’ll clean and organize stuff! Make sure everything has its place.

POSITIONS QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education & Experience: Must be at least 16 years old; if under age 18, must work under direct and constant supervision of a Youth Development Professional or Site Coordinator.
