POSITION TITLE:Youth Ministries Team Leader

PAY RANGE: $41, 527 - $49,833



OUTCOMES


Direct and coordinate the overall youth ministry of the Rockford Temple Corps, infant through high school, as well as bridge high school graduates into young adult/adult ministries. The position will require collaborative efforts with YPSM, youth leaders, parents, and staff. The ministry opportunities will focus on Youth Pastoral Care and Programming, Leadership Development, and Administrative Duties.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


This position includes membership on the Corps Council and youth leadership team.



YOUTH PASTORAL CARE AND PROGRAMMING


Provide direct leadership and discipleship of leaders and youth for overall mission effectiveness.



  1. Provide direct leadership to any youth programming as needed.

  2. Provide leadership to middle and high school youth (grades 6-12): maintain curriculum and program materials, prepare calendar, plan events, oversee fundraisers, work with youth leaders.

  3. Maintain the overall purpose for teens to grow as obedient disciples of Christ, share the gospel, discover their role in the body of Christ.

  4. Provide leadership to pre-school and elementary youth (ages 0-5th grade) along with children's leaders to maintain curriculum or program materials, plan programs, discipleship opportunities, service projects and fun activities

  5. Create and maintain a prayer partner program. Keep record of existing prayer partners, form new partnerships, encourage adult prayer partners to continue in prayer and contact with their assigned youth through their college years.

  6. Work with senior leadership and staff on special outreach events and follow up with new families at the corps and potential families in the community.

  7. Cultivate relationships with parents, provide support as needed and encourage participation in overall corps programming and worship.

  8. In collaboration with Corps Officer, oversee the Day Camp program planning and implementation, including promotion, registration and staff training/supervision

  9. Participate in Christmas effort especially as it directly relates to children and families. Organize youth to volunteer in program areas as well as Christmas kettles.

  10. Ensure material used in any programming aligns with Salvation Army doctrinal distinctives and beliefs that regularly reinforce the gospel message.


LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT


Recruit, train, and coordinate youth leadership team (infant through high school).



  1. Schedule, promote and lead Youth Leadership Team four times per year.

  2. Maintain close contact with all youth leaders, offering assistance, provide encouragement/support and training/mentoring. Meet with leaders individually as needed.

  3. Ensure all Safe-From-Harm policies and procedures are up to date and implemented in all youth programs, including training, record keeping, and annual registration forms

  4. Work with all volunteer youth leaders to plan the calendar for each program year. This calendar is to be prepared for presentation at the corps calendar planning meeting in June each year.

  5. Along with the senior leadership team, recruit train, manage and develop new leaders as needed.

  6. Be involved in conferences and other youth-related training opportunities (as approved by the Corps Officer) for education and growth. Encourage Corps youth leaders to participate in opportunities as they are available.


ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES


Responsible for recording and processing information relative to statistics, finances, communications, and evaluation for all corps youth programs.




  1. Responsible for budget management for youth programming and summer day camp.

  2. Responsible for recording and processing statistics and finances for youth programming.

  3. Maintain and monitor social media pages for youth

  4. Process information, forms, and payments for all youth camps, councils and retreats.

  5. Coordinate transportation needs for all youth programming

  6. Provide leadership and/or secure leadership and transportation to divisional and territorial events.

  7. Write letters/emails, make phone calls, and handle all correspondence relating to youth work.

  8. Develop, produce, and distribute a parent handbook, participation guidelines, and annual registration/emergency form.

  9. Hold parents' meetings annually to review policies.

  10. Evaluate all youth programming and visioning as a part of the overall corps plan

  11. Work with Corps Officers to prepare and submit all youth reports to divisional headquarters.

  12. In collaboration with Corps Officers, hire and supervise summer day camp staff

  13. Oversee Day Camp planning, training, administrative tasks, and overall program supervision.


All other duties as assigned.



REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS


This position reports to the Corps Officers with considerable freedom to plan, schedule, and carry out responsibilities within established policies and procedures.


This individual acts as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission in all contacts.



PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS


This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved as well as the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.



A 30, 60, and 90-day performance review will be conducted.



EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE



  • Undergraduate degree in youth ministries, Christian education, or related field preferred.

  • 5 years of experience in Christian youth work considered in lieu of related degree.

  • This position requires a valid Driver's license.

POSITION LIMITATIONS



  • This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.

  • This individual will keep the Corps Officers informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.

  • This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities.


CHURCH MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENT



  • This position has an essential role in fulfilling the mission of The Salvation Army. Because of the integral denominational nature of this responsibility, active soldiership at The Salvation Army Rockford Temple Corps is required.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT



  • This position is required to do moderate physical work.

  • In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment and PC.

  • The work environment for this position includes an office environment with a low-noise level.

  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients, and visitors; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, and subordinates.
