Position: Anti-Trafficking Peer Mentor

Department: Philadelphia Social Service Ministries

Availability of Position: Immediately

Schedule: Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, some nights and weekends required

Reporting Relationship: Anti-Trafficking Peer Coordinator

Salary/Grade: $20.00 per hour; 76, Non-Exempt

Position Overview

The Peer Mentor will provide client-centered, trauma-informed, peer mentoring services to survivors of trafficking identified and referred through the Philadelphia Department of Human Services (DHS). This position is funded through a partnership with DHS.

Responsibilities

Description of Position: The Peer Mentor will offer intensive peer support to confirmed and suspected survivors of human trafficking within DHS. Responsibilities include developing and facilitating groups with youth survivors, providing culturally competent services using lived experience, and addressing issues related to substance use, trafficking, and commercial sexual exploitation. The Peer Mentor will also support adult survivors identified through self-referral and assessments, and may assist the Victim Advocate and Education Prevention Specialist with outreach and other initiatives.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Peer Counselor or Certified Recovery Specialist certification required
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Lived experience related to trafficking, domestic violence, homelessness, or substance use
  • At least two years in recovery and two years out of lived experience circumstances
  • Understanding of domestic and foreign human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation
  • Experience with trauma-informed care; familiarity with Sanctuary Model preferred
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred
  • Driver’s license preferred
  • Proficient in Word and Excel; capable of internet navigation
  • Must meet Child Protection Clearances as per PA Act 153, including Child Abuse History, State Police, and FBI checks
  • Must complete mandated reporter training within 30 days of employment, with recertification every five years
  • Understanding of and appreciation for The Salvation Army’s mission
  • Position contingent on grant funding
