Job summary

Fred Finch Youth & Family Services in Oakland is seeking a Youth Partner (Mentor) to provide direct care, mentorship, and engagement for youth and families in community or school settings. You will share experiences to support recovery and resilience while helping navigate systems such as regional centers, family services, and education systems.

The role requires de-escalation skills, cultural responsiveness, and the ability to document progress and incidents.

Qualifications

• Experience as a consumer of services: social services, mental health, residential treatment or group home placements, foster care services, wraparound services, community resources and educational services for youth with special needs.
• Prior youth advocacy experience desirable
• Demonstrated ability to utilize de-escalation techniques that align with the trauma informed care model as part of intervention strategy for working with participants in crisis who are responding to triggers/stressors and/or demonstrating early indicators of distress
• Demonstrated cultural responsiveness in working with diverse families and
• Basic computer and keyboarding competence with the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and/or competency with electronic clinical documentation
• Clean driving record; current CA Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 10 days after hire.
• Must have access to dependable transportation and personal car insurance, meeting minimum liability coverage required for position if driving for work or transporting participants
• Certificate Requirement: Candidates must be CMPSS certified or be able to obtain certification within one (1) year of hire.

Responsibilities

• The Youth Partner is a primary agent for direct care and engagement of youth, young adults and/or families in a community, home, or school setting.
• The role provides hope, one-on-one support, and mentorship by sharing experience with recovery/resilience and navigating systems.
• The Youth Partner works with other staff to provide therapeutic care and documents patterns of behavior and incidents.
• Participates in training and supervisory meetings as needed.
