About the Youth Mentor/Driver Position

Xiente is seeking a dedicated Youth Mentor/Driver for our Youth Take Action Program. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about youth development, committed to community service, and able to build positive relationships with young people.

The Youth Mentor/Driver is responsible for safely transporting youth participants to and from program activities while also serving as a mentor and positive role model. When not driving, the Youth Mentor/Driver will actively support program operations, engage youth in educational and recreational activities, assist with homework support, and help create a safe, welcoming, and enriching environment.

The ideal candidate will have experience mentoring, coaching, supporting, or working with youth in some capacity and must maintain a professional, respectful, and supportive presence at all times.

Duties & Responsibilities

As a vital member of Xiente's team, you will:

  • Interact professionally with youth ages 10–17.
  • Provide homework assistance and academic support.
  • Create an engaging, positive, and enjoyable atmosphere for youth participants.
  • Supervise and support groups of youth during program activities.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, welcoming environment.
  • Encourage participation and engagement in all program activities.
  • Build positive relationships with youth, families, schools, and community partners.
  • Serve as a mentor and positive role model.
  • Safely operate a 14–passenger van for participant transportation.
  • Conduct youth pick‑ups and drop‑offs according to program schedules.
  • Navigate Philadelphia routes, particularly within the 19133, 19122, 19134, 19140, 19124, and 19120 zip codes.
  • Assist with site‑based programming and classroom support when not driving.
  • Maintain cleanliness of assigned vehicles and report maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Complete incident reports when necessary.
  • Observe and report unsafe acts, behaviors, or conditions.
  • Follow oral and written instructions accurately.
  • Utilize computers and other software required for program documentation and communication.
  • Assist at the Teen Center, focusing on youth engagement, safety, supervision, and mentorship.
  • Participate in community events, trainings, staff meetings, and quarterly strategic meetings as required.
Requirements
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate Degree in Human Services, Education, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, supporting, supervising, or working with youth in any capacity, including schools, community programs, recreation programs, sports, camps, after‑school programs, faith‑based organizations, or volunteer experiences.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with youth and serve as a positive role model.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, racial, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have the physical license available upon hire.
  • Good driving record required.
  • Minimum of two years of driving experience.
  • Ability to safely operate a 12‑14 passenger van.
  • Knowledge of SEPTA routes preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Norris Square community and local service providers is a plus.
Schedule

Part-Time | Rotating Schedule

Available shifts include:

  • 6:00 PM – 11:00 PM
  • 9:00 PM – 2:00 AM

The program operates Monday through Sunday, and candidates must be available to work one or both shifts as needed.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to safely operate a passenger vehicle for extended periods.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations involving youth participants.
